Conversations with EVE: Kenzo

It’s a warm evening in Los Angeles and Kenzo Lee Hounsou is out on the court. He’s forward looking: the ball bounces steady against the pavement as he talks about where he’s at and where he wants to go. He takes a few shots, laughs at himself, tosses a joke our way. He’s loose but focused at the same time.

That mix of ease and focus is what drew EVE to him. He wears the clothes the way they’re meant to be worn: with movement, with purpose, without overthinking it. On or off the court, the style just sits right on him—easy, grounded, ready for whatever’s next.

Who's your favorite rapper to listen to while you work out?

Favorite rapper to listen to while I work out is definitely Carti for sure. Or like Kent Carson or Destroy Lonely, something like that.

What's a typical day in your world from the moment you wake up to when you wind down?

Wake up, brush your teeth, wash your face, make or order breakfast, go to a workout, then go home and nap for two to three hours, go to another workout, come home, watch some film, play the game a little bit, eat some dinner, and then go to sleep.

How do you describe your personal style?

I say calm, smooth, refined because I know what I like.

How do you balance looking good while staying comfortable especially as an athlete?

As an athlete, being comfortable is the number one thing. I make sure that the things I wear are comfortable, and if they're stylish to others, that's a bonus. I don’t really worry about that. I focus on my comfort and how I feel.

What are your fashion influences, past or present?

Some fashion influences of mine would definitely be my mom, who helps me and talks to me about those types of things, and Alton Mason, who I really look up to.

Do you see basketball culture influencing streetwear right now?

Yes, I definitely do. Players like Shai Gilgeous and Bol Bol have crazy fits and influence both the game and the fashion industry.

What's a pregame ritual you never skip?

I meditate and listen to music for an hour or two before the game. I like to go in a dark room, close my eyes, and listen to music to get hyped for the game.

“Some fashion influences of mine would definitely be my mom...”

When did you first dunk?

I started playing basketball in eighth grade summer, and probably two or three months after I started playing, I dunked. I had to work out a lot and lift to get my body to peak performance to be able to dunk.

Who do you want to play for in the NBA?

I've never really thought too deeply about it. I'd be grateful to be in the NBA alone, so I'm just grateful for any opportunity that I get.

Malibu or Venice?

Malibu, I prefer.

NYC or LA?

LA for sure, it's hotter.

Lebron or Kobe?

I don't have an answer for that. They're both great. They're GOATs in their own way.

Rodeo or Melrose?

What's that? I don't shop.

In-N-Out or Shake Shack?

In-N-Out for sure. I think it’s better.

TikTok or IG?

I'm going to have to go with TikTok. It's got more on there.

YouTube or Netflix?

I mean they are like two different completely like types of like streaming platforms. I say YouTube though. YouTube has everything on there.

Clippers or Lakers?

Lakers are better for sure.
